By Beverley Brooke

Have you ever wondered what makes women tick? Well among other things it is good, no wait… great fashion sense!

If you are pregnant or soon will be, it can sometimes seem like a daunting task trying to remain fashionable and pregnant all at the same time.

Many women at least initially lament the loss of their pre-pregnant figures. The good news however, is that there are literally hundreds of online maternity fashion shops that offer quality, great looking and fun maternity wear at reasonable prices!

Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you have to suffer from a fashion perspective. In fact, finding the right fashion wear might be just what you need to jump-start your pregnancy and make you feel great about yourself.

When To Start Wearing Maternity Fashions

Many new moms wonder when they should start wearing maternity clothes. You definitely won’t be needing them your first trimester, where you alone are probably the only person that can tell that you are pregnant.

Most women start wearing maternity items at about the fourth or fifth month. Now, this varies from woman to woman. Second time moms often start showing earlier than their first time counterparts, and women with multiples start showing even sooner.

They type of maternity clothes that you need during pregnancy generally change too. Some women are able to make due with a baggy pair of jeans for some time during their early pregnancy. Many find themselves moving into maternity wear before their bellies are quite big enough to fill out the maternity wear.

Here are some maternity wearing tips that will help you during your pregnancy:

- Grab a rubber band. For the first few months you can secure your jeans using a rubber band hooked through the eye of your jeans and wrapped around the button. This will give you an extra inch or two of space in the months that you are too small for maternity clothes.

- Invest in a couple of comfy skirts. Long skirts with expandable waists work great in the early months of pregnancy.

Purchase just a few maternity items that you can mix and match. Consider for example a pair of jeans and a pair of slacks, and maybe a few different shirts and accessories that can go with both. If you work in an office environment that is very formal, consider one or two suits that can easily be accessorized or mixed with several different shirts.

Invest in an item or two one size too big. Often you just need a pair of jeans one size larger than normal to get you through the first few months of pregnancy.

Maternity clothes can be expensive, and remember you will only be wearing them for nine months. The good news is many online shops offered discounts on their maternity wear. You might also consider purchasing your maternity wear at a well known second hand shop. If you are a first time mom, you’ll undoubtedly find that many moms try to pawn off their old maternity items on you. This makes it even easier to shop!

Plus Size Maternity Fashions

By Andrea Dilea

It used to be a challenge to be a pregnant plus-size woman. Fortunately both local stores and online shops now stock plus size maternity clothes. If you look carefully you also should be able to find good sales on maternity clothes that will help you maintain a budget. Keep in mind that, after all, these are only temporary clothes.

You needed rush out to buy plus size maternity clothes the moment you become pregnant. The biggest changes in your body are generally still several months off. One notable exception, though, may be your bra size, since breasts tend to enlarge much sooner than does the waistline. A smart shopper will invest now in nursing bras, instead of just buying larger sized regular bras. Nursing bras will give you the support you will need through pregnancy, and be very useful once your baby arrives.

A professional fitting is a must if you are pregnant because your old bras will no longer fit. Buy only one or two bras at a time because your size will continue to change throughout your pregnancy. You may also want to look for a comfortable bra to use while you sleep because you may find you need round the clock support while you are pregnant.

Don't start buying and wearing maternity clothes until you absolutely have to. If you start wearing too many plus size maternity clothes when you first learn you're pregnant, you will get very tired of them by the end of the pregnancy. A plus size dress is made with extra give room which may be fine in early months but too tight towards the end of the pregnancy. After delivery you will want to continue wearing maternity clothing for awhile, especially if you will be nursing.

Simple, classic, easy to care for clothes are excellent wardrobe choices for a pregnant woman. Plus size maternity clothes which can be tossed in a home washer and dried in a home dryer definitely fit into this category. A woman can care for them easily and this is really important during the nine months of pregnancy when she is often tired much of the time. Her wardrobe will seem much more attractive and chic when it doesn't wear her out even more.

Plus size maternity clothing is more difficult to find and will cost more than other maternity clothing. You will want to try on maternity clothing in a store to determine the fit. Then, if you like, you can comparison shop for the same items online to see if you can find discounts. You will be able to find lots of websites offering discounts and clearance sales. In fact, the larger department stores often offer a better selection of plus size clothing, both regular and maternity, online than they do in their stores.

Remember that regular clothing with a loose fit or that has elastic or a drawstring at the waist will also work well into your pregnancy. This option is also more economical as it will be something that you can also use after your pregnancy, as well as saving you money now. Being a BBW doesn't have to mean that you can't find nice plus size maternity clothes.
